# Install on Linux (AppImage)

The Lumicast player is available as an AppImage for **64-bit x64 and ARM64 Linux**. Use it on a Linux system with a graphical desktop. You manage the operating system, network configuration and system security updates yourself.

For a dedicated Raspberry Pi player, use [Lumicast OS](/player/installation/raspberry-pi-os) instead. The [Raspberry Pi AppImage guide](/player/installation/raspberry-pi-appimage) covers using your own Linux installation on a Pi.

## Choose the right download

Run `uname -m` in a terminal:

| Result               | Download       |
| -------------------- | -------------- |
| `x86_64`             | x64 AppImage   |
| `aarch64` or `arm64` | ARM64 AppImage |

The current player does not support 32-bit Linux. Download the matching file from the [Linux section on the downloads page](https://lumicast.com/downloads#players).

## Start the player

1. Keep the downloaded `.AppImage` in a folder owned by the user who will run the player.
2. Open a terminal in that folder. Replace `Lumicast.AppImage` below with the downloaded filename:

    ```bash
    chmod +x ./Lumicast.AppImage
    ./Lumicast.AppImage
    ```

3. Once the player shows a pairing code, [connect the display to your workspace](/getting-started/connect-a-display).
4. Assign content and check that it plays correctly. Restart the computer and check the full startup flow before leaving it unattended; desktop login and network availability depend on your Linux setup.

If the AppImage reports a missing FUSE library, install the FUSE compatibility package for your Linux distribution. Include the exact error and your distribution version in a Lumicast support ticket if you need help.

## Network access

The player needs internet access to pair, receive changes and download content. See the [network requirements](/how-to/network-requirements) if your organisation uses a firewall or proxy.
